Magali Katra
Follow ArtistBorn in Lebanon in 1979, Magali Katra traveled the world for a long time before returning to settle in her native country. She graduated from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA), and continued her studies in Paris at the National School of Fine Arts and the Duperré School of Applied Arts.
After having participated locally in several group shows, in April 2004 Katra had her first solo show "Etre et Paraitre" at Espace SD. Her work was chosen to represent Lebanon in a group exhibit at the UNESCO Palace in Paris. In her second solo show at Espace SD, "Prêt a Penser," Katra continued to question human behavior and the collective consciousness. Magali Katra's canvases are eloquent in their sobriety. The striking graphic approach of juxtaposing black human forms with colorful backgrounds has become Katra's distinctive style. By continuing to push towards further abstraction, the silhouettes that occupy her canvases are anonymous but seemingly universal. Sharp and cynical, Katra's work serves as a critic of the contemporary society she rigorously observes.
