These works are part of the series: "Aqui é mais do que o vírus" [Here is more than the virus]. Series that has been developed during the covid-19 quarantine since April, 2020.
Far from the studio, with the lack of materials, the development process of the works happened with the small pieces of the only fabric I had at hand. From the pieces of fabrics, I started creating small objects, which fit in the palm of the hand, produced in the form of masks. The process of embroidering using my hair, recurrent in previous works (since 1998), here is an essential part of the whole process and the concept of the work: body, skin, DNA.
In Brazil, this series carries our collective devastated feelings in the face of the seriousness of the pandemic, at the same time as a government that from the beginning acted irresponsibly and with serious indications of crimes against humanity.
From the beginning, when I heard about Artsak and the conflict again, I thought I could unite the two screams: from the people of my ancestral origin and from the people of my homeland.
In these two pieces it has the same scream (Genocide never again). One happens in Brazil regarding the continued genocide of blacks and indigenous people (in the piece with Portuguese/ Brazilian idiom). And the other, the scream of the Armenian people in Artsak, for a no to the new genocide (in the piece in Armenian idiom / alphabet).
